Ruth’s Journey to Empowerment through Goat Grazing Best Practices.

Ruth, a 27-year-old youth pastoralist in Nyakatozi Subcountry, Kasese District, serves as a shining example of resilience and empowerment. Growing up in a pastoralist community, she always dreamed of making a difference, not just for herself but also for her family. Her story took a turn for the better when she joined RIWE_AFRICA’s Livelihood Program, where she was trained in goat grazing best practices.

Before the training, Ruth, like many young women in her community, struggled with managing her herd effectively. Traditional grazing practices were not always sustainable, and she noticed that the health and productivity of her goats were declining. However, after receiving training on best practices to manage and increase the productivity of her goats, everything changed. Ruth learned how to properly rotate grazing areas, monitor the health of her animals, and introduce nutritional practices that improved the quality of the feed her goats received.

“The training has been life-changing, Ruth shared. “I now know how to care for my goats in a way that keeps them healthy and productive. I’ve seen a remarkable improvement in the sizes of the goat and their overall health. The best part is that I no longer face the constant fear of losing my animals due to poor grazing practices”.

Ruth’s commitment to implementing what she learned has not only improved her herds but also made her a role model for other young women in her community. She now shares her knowledge with other young women, teaching them about sustainable grazing and encouraging them to invest in their own livestock. With her goats now thriving, Ruth has been able to generate a steady income, which she uses to support her family and reinvest in her herd. “I’m proud of the progress I have made. It’s not just about my goats; it’s about building a future for myself and others,” she said with a smile.

Ruth’s success story is a testament to the power of training and knowledge. Through RIWE_AFRICA’s Livelihood Program, young women like her are transforming their communities, one goat at a time.
